Developers: MVC in WordPress – bringing the rapid application development framework experience to WP by Brian Zeligson (@bzeg)
Frameworks like Ruby On Rails, Django, FuelPHP, and CodeIgniter strike a great balance between providing developers with free functionality, while getting out of the way to let you build exactly the application you need. For all of WordPress’ finer points, sometimes it can feel like going up the down escalator when building things WordPress wasn’t necessarily intended for. In this talk I’ll review the basics of MVC, discuss how we leverage this development methodology at Streetwise Media, and introduce swpMVC, the framework we’ve put together that enables us to build custom applications quickly and cleanly in the WordPress environment.
Brian is the lead developer at Streetwise Media, parent company for the high traffic WordPress sites bostinno.com and inthecapital.com. Self taught initially on WordPress, I’m passionate about web development technologies and have branched out to work with python, ruby, node.js, and various other PHP frameworks. The exposure I’ve gained from these platforms and communities has brought fresh perspectives to my work with WP, and played a large role in shaping the team dynamic and general approach to development at Streetwise.
