The first Boston WordPress Workshop was a huge success. We’d love to thank Page.ly for sponsoring lunch and hope that we’ll see them at future workshops!
Here are our opening remarks. Remember, if you want to post jobs or have questions for the Boston WordPress community, please visit the appropriate sections! We are also looking for speakers. If there is a topic you would like to talk about, please let either James or myself know! This is a rather lengthy post, so you’ll need to hit the bump for the 3 videos and slides!
And as always, a great big thanks to Microsoft NERD for the venue/support (and of course pizza) and Uptown New Media Inc.
ToolBox: Ben Hughes will be presenting on videos, the basics of filming and easy integration of video into WordPress.

Dev/Design: Amanda Blum from Howling Zoe Productions will be presenting “Why Site Mapping is the Ugly Redheaded StepChild of Website Development.” Whether you’re a developer or a user, figuring out the “what goes where” and “what should my website say” bit does seem to spin people into knots. For a long time, we’ve been thinking completely logically about it, creating wholly reasonable menus that put items into truly common sensible categories. The whole thing makes complete sense…… to us. Therein lies the problem: we’ve been putting out the information in the way we, as the site owners want to give it. We have often ignored how people – our users – might want to receive the information.

Hey guys, I am an organizer of WordCamp Montreal and our local meetups. I’m spending a lot of time in Boston lately and would love to come to your event.
I’ve done a lot of presenting in the past (WCSF, WCNYC, WCTO, WCMTL) and I think I could dazzle your crowd with some WP knowledge if the timing is right. I could give my talk about widgets and sidebars from this year’s WordCamp Montreal, it’s relevant to most users (a bit technical but also lots of conceptual material).
See you guys around
